Heat exchangers

APV invented and developed the plate heat exchanger which is at the heart of so many processes in the food, beverage, dairy and chemical industries, as well as having many heating, cooling and heat recovery applications.
APV standard 'P' types offer AISI 316L stainless steel plates and connections with copper brazing. The units are rated for 450 psig operating pressure with a maximum temperature of 383ºF. P series are typically installed with a Y-strainer to protect the unit from debris, while custom insulation kits minimize ambient losses.

A principal system design includes a primary heat source ie boiler and a secondary loop such as snowmelt or radiant circuit. Sanitary instant hot water can also be produced from this system with the use of appropriate controls. Due to the low internal volume of the brazed exchanger, instant hot water is possible in many cases eliminating the need for thermal storage tanks.
Inherent of their turbulent flow, brazed plate heat exchangers resist particulate fouling and scaling. Units can be cleaned using a phosphoric or citrus acid solution circulated in reverse at 1.5 times the normal fluid flow rate.
Replacing bulky shell and tube, coiled, coaxial and other less efficient heat exchangers, brazed plates have allowed system designers not only to think outside the box, but also to make the box smaller - pushing the boundaries of system design.

Direct Steam Heating

The APV direct steam infusion process offers a high degree of flexibility in terms of sterilization of a wide range of products such as milk, cream, vla, custards, ice cream mix, baby food, milk concentrates and similar products.

Product range

The infusion system is available in a wide range of UHT combination plants, for example with special distribution heads for particulates, with tubular heat exchangers, and with or without a flash chamber after the infuser.
Direct steam heating can be applied in two ways

Direct Steam Infusion

This operates by introducing product into an atmosphere of steam through multiple nozzles in a pressurized chamber.
The infusion system is available in a wide range of UHT combination plants, i.e. with special distribution heads for particulates, with tubular heat exchangers and with or without a flash chamber after the infuser. Capacities range from 1,000 to 2,000 l/hour.
The infusion heater is especially designed for:

  • flexible production of high-quality sterile products without cooked flavors
  • pasteurized products with extended shelf life
  • products requiring gentle heat treatment and efficient deodorization
  • products susceptible to fouling

Typical products include milk, cream, soya milk products, processed cheese, puddings, desserts and ice cream mix.

Direct Steam Injection

This operates by direct injection of steam into a continuous flow of product through a special nozzle. This system provides very rapid heating, although slower than with steam infusion. The injection system handles low to medium viscosity products and the capacity range is from 2,000 to 25,000 l/hour.
Typical products include milk, cream, flavored milk, soya milk and ice cream mix.

Features/benefits

The infusion sterilizer offers instant, gentle heating without cavitations, accurate holding times and rapid cooling. These features ensure:

  • accurate and defined sterilising effect
  • high sterilizing values combined with low chemical changes
  • high reliability
  • long production runs
  • preservation of the natural properties of the raw product, with regard to taste, flavor, color and nutritional value
  • final heating without contact with hot surfaces
  • minimised risk of burn-on and fouling of sensitive products
  • reduced product waste and manpower requirements due to long production runs combined with adequate automation level
  • reduced fouling resulting in lower detergent and effluent generation.

Direct Heating Units
If you don’t want to spend your time on configuring or taking the responsibility for valves, pumps, plate heat exchangers amongst other things, then choose a compact district heating unit.

  • Purchase one unit and not 15 - 20 components
  • in/out takes 1 day - easy upstarts - plug and heat

Your customer will appreciate your new speed and efficiency.
Without regard to kW size, technical solution and no matter if it is one or thousand off; APV is your supplier.
We have over 40 years of experience with district heating systems and since the 1970's we have designed, developed, produced and maintained district heating units and now operation global basis.
Key benefits:

  • Flexible in size, performance, and choice of components
  • Tailored according to your requirements
  • 9 standard types
  • comprehensive in choice of heat exchanger (all-welded, brazed, plate & frame)
